Your nervous system is the foundation of how you feel, think, relate, and move through the world. When it’s dysregulated, life can feel harder than it “should". You might notice you’re constantly on edge, exhausted but unable to rest, easily feel overwhelmed, or shut down without meaning to.
It’s your body’s way of protecting you. But what happens when you no longer need protecting?
A dysregulated nervous system often develops after prolonged stress, trauma, unpredictable environments, or simply years of living in survival mode. Over time, your body learns to stay hyper-alert or collapsed, even when the danger has passed.
Therapy helps you understand these states, work with your body instead of against it, and gently build a physiology that feels steadier, safer, and more resilient day to day.
Why Nervous System Dysregulation Happens
There is no single cause of dysregulation. It usually develops gradually, shaped by experiences your body didn’t have the support, safety, or rest to process at the time.
Modern research shows it is often linked to a combination of:
